HIPEC stands for: Hyperthermic Intra Peritoneal Chemotherapy, which means:
rinsing of the abdominal cavity with heated chemotherapy. After tumor removal, a heated chemotherapy solution is circulated in the peritoneal cavity for 30-90 mins. Essentially there are two phases of treatment
- Exploration and tumor removal known as ‘Cytoreductive Surgery’
- Chemotherapy itself (HIPEC).
